Grade 8620 is a hardenable low alloy steel containing chromium, molybdenum, and nickel.
Commonly used for carburizing to develop a case-hardened part.
Case-hardening results in excellent wear characteristics, with improved strength and toughness.
Machining is done prior to carburizing, aiming for close tolerances.
Finish machining or grinding after heat treatment and/or carburizing should be minimized to preserve the hardened case of the part.
