- Precipitation Hardening Alloy – Contains magnesium and silicon for enhanced strength.
- Good Machinability – Easy to cut, shape, and process.
- Excellent Weldability – Can be welded using standard techniques.
- Strength Reduction After Welding – Loses about 80% of strength near the weld (6061-0 state).
- Re-Heat Treatable – Can be restored to -T4 or -T6 temper for full strength.
- Natural Aging Recovery – Regains some strength over time after welding.
